HRP Awards 2025 Summer Fellowship

HRP is pleased to award its 2025 summer fellowship to Madeleine Wonneberger JD’27.
Summer fellowships for human rights internships are a central part of the Harvard Law School human rights experience and provide rich professional, personal, and intellectual opportunities. Many students and alumnae/i who are committed to human rights were introduced to the field through an internship. Interns work for at least eight weeks with nongovernmental or intergovernmental organizations advancing human rights.
Madeleine Wonneberger will intern at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL) in London, supporting the Business and Human Rights division’s work on corporate human rights abuses, transitional justice, and multilateral AI regulation. Her interest in public international law is informed by her research and work experiences across East Asia, including in Hong Kong, Suzhou, and Yunnan Province. Prior to HLS, Madeleine interned at the National Committee on U.S.–China Relations in New York City, where she supported the 2024 U.S.–China Track II Strategic Security Dialogue, contributed to public education initiatives, and tracked legislative developments relating to greater China. She earned her A.B. in Public Policy Studies with a minor in East Asian Studies from the University of Chicago. Her honors thesis explored the impact of Hong Kong’s “One Country, Two Systems” governance model on international finance.
